Our Roots as a Steeplejack Service

Capitol Flag & Flagpole Company began in the 1960s as a steeplejack service, painting and repairing flagpoles, steeples, smokestacks, tanks, and light poles throughout the Mid Atlantic, Southeast, and South. By the late 1960s, following a stint in the U.S. Navy, founder Jesse Murphy began specializing specifically in flagpole repair, flagpole maintenance, flagpole sales, and commercial flagpole installation — laying the foundation for the company we are today. Jesse retired in September 2022 after 57 years of dedicated service to the flagpole industry.

A Second Generation Takes the Helm

On September 1, 2022, Jesse's nephew, Clifton Murphy, took over ownership of the company. Clifton is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, making Capitol Flag & Flagpole a second-generation, family-owned and veteran-owned business — values that continue to shape how we treat every customer and every project today.

What We Do Today

We are a major distributor, supplier, and installer of commercial, industrial, educational, and residential flagpoles, and we still specialize in flagpole installation, maintenance, and repair. We sell U.S., state, international, religious, historic, and decorative flags and banners, including custom digitally dyed and appliquéd designs. We also supply the accessories, parts, and hardware needed to display and maintain flags, banners, and flagpoles — everything our customers need in one place.

Six Decades in the Same Raleigh Neighborhood

We have just begun our 61st year of service, and we've operated out of our current office, store, and shop at 623 West Lane St. in Raleigh, N.C., since 1976. As a family-owned and family-operated business, we take pride in offering excellent value, quality craftsmanship, and a level of customer service that's harder to find with less personally focused companies.
