Sampson Community College in Clinton, NC recently contacted us to assist in relocating a 50' flagpole located on their property, as well as installing two new matching 40' commercial flagpoles with revolving trucks, gold balls, and brushed satin finish.

They needed the flagpoles set up in a triangle pattern with the 50' flagpole being re-installed as the lead flagpole in this pattern.

The work was carried out over three days. The photo to the left shows the completed project.

Day 1 Inspection of Existing Flagpole

On day one we inspected the existing 50' flagpole to determine its installation method, whether shoe base or ground sleeve. This allowed us to come up with a game plan to extract that flagpole and move it to the new location. We also laid out the triangle pattern at the new install location, marked the locations with marking paint and got approval from the customer for the new locations.

 Day 2 - Flagpole Footings

Day 2 consisted of digging new footings for all three flagpoles as well as pouring concrete foundations. A single 72" footing and two 60" footings were dug by hand due to the proximity of the underground electrical service near the flagpole installation area. Once excavated, steel ground sleeves were installed into the footings, and concrete foundations were poured. After ensuring that the sleeves were all at the same height relative to grade, as well as plum on all sides the foundations were left to cure for one week.

 Day 3 - Removal of Existing Flagpole

Day 3 consisted of digging out the original 50' flagpole and using a crane to relocate it to its new ground set sleeve, which was installed the week prior. We also used the crane to set the two additional 40' flagpoles into their respective ground sleeves. After erecting the flagpoles into their sleeves all three flagpoles were wedged, plummed, packed, and sealed.

We then consulted with the client to ensure they were happy with the final result and then assisted them in flying a US and a NC flag. They ordered a custom flag from us as well to go on the third flagpole.

This was an extremely rewarding project for a local institution. The client was happy with the result, and we were happy to be of service. There were challenges, but with over 60 years of experience in commercial flagpole projects, they were easy to overcome and solutions were always discussed with the client. Customer service is our #1 goal and no job is finished until our client is happy.
